We are currently seeking a Foundry Lead Hand to join our team!

About the Foundry Lead Hand Opportunity:

Reporting to the Foundry Supervisor, and working in the Foundry, you will complete all the foundry-related duties including daily production planning, testing, validation, pouring, workplace organization and improvement. Specific duties include:

  • Operating the induction melting furnaces for melting and pouring operations
  • Understanding and following procedures required to consistently meet relevant metal chemistry specifications
  • Adding correct element additions required to meet chemistry specifications and execute the proper deoxidation, degassing and grain refining procedures
  • Performing any other combination of tasks in the foundry such as ladle pouring metal into molds, removing mold material from castings, moving foundry materials, installing ladles and crucibles and cleaning equipment and work areas

Lead Hand responsibilities:

  • Assist with production plans in the Foundry by establishing priorities and monitoring progress
  • Assist with the management and development of the Foundry employees to achieve established goals of safety, production volume and quality
  • Help ensure Foundry employees are properly oriented and trained
  • Lead by example in following non-conformance procedures and applicable quality systems, HR, safety, department procedures and process instructions
  • Help develop and implement continuous improvement within departmental employees’ performance through regular feedback, coaching and training
  • Make recommendations regarding safety, quality, expense, productivity and customer feedback
  • Help prepare departmental reporting as required

Other responsibilities:

  • Preparing shells for the insertion of molten metal using preheated furnaces, pouring beds, hoists, loading racks, and personal protective equipment
  • Removing ceramic shell material from cast parts using high pressure water wash units, carts, overhead hoists, hammers, mallets and personal protective equipment
  • Removing complex castings from runner panels using cutoff saws. Cutting up runners for use as revert using various saws, tote bins, carts, overhead hoists, saw blades, and personal protective equipment
  • Other assigned tasks as requested

The Foundry Lead Hand candidate must be:

  • Able to tolerate the severe, seasonal, temperature demands of the job, including intense heat in the summer, especially around the preheat ovens and the melters, and cold, damp conditions in the winter months. Long sleeves and pants are required and all clothing must be cotton (no polyester)
  • Able to tolerate exposure to high frequency and loud noise for extended periods of time
  • Capable of exercising extreme care and focus in daily work habits due to the potentially dangerous nature
  • Willing to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including hearing protection, safety boots, protective eye wear, safety gloves, face masks, heat protective clothing and hard hat

Education, Training and Experience of Foundry Lead Hand:

  • Past work experience in a foundry is ideal but work experience in any heavy labour job is a strong asset
  • 2-3+ years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment is a strong asset
  • Completed high school diploma is desired
  • A vocation diploma (DEP) in foundry work is an asset
  • Experience with operating a melting furnace and melting ingots is ideal
  • Strong working knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation; previous GHS (WHMIS) and other OHS training is preferred
  • Effective team builder with demonstrated abilities to motivate all levels of personnel
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with personnel
  • Highly motivated, self-directed and organized
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently; take initiative and follow-up on assigned projects, balanced by excellent teamwork skills
  • On the job training is provided

Desired Qualifications of the Foundry Lead Hand:

  • Familiarity with the operation and monitoring of firing kilns, coreless induction furnaces and electric resistance metal melting units is ideal
  • Familiarity with high heat (steel) melting and pouring as well as the lower temp aluminum is ideal
  • Understand correct material handling procedures to avoid mold and casting damage from receipt of dewaxed ceramic molds through to removal of shell and casting cut off, including caustic soda operations is ideal
  • Must have sufficient strength and manual dexterity to perform the physical demands of the job, including but not limited to pushing, pulling, heavy lifting up to 50lbs., working above shoulder height, bending, standing for long periods of time
  • Must be capable of repetitious lifting, often involving significant weight
  • Effective communication skills both oral and written in English
  • Proven numeracy and problem-solving skills
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Good attention to detail
  • Must have average working knowledge of personal computers and related software
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team

We are now looking for a Radiographer – Level II to join our team!

 

About the Opportunity

You will be responsible for processing and inspecting aluminum, steel, stainless and cobalt castings through x-ray inspection to ensure compliance with company and customer standards using x-ray machines, x-ray film processors, densitometers and blueprints.

 

You will be working in a clean working environment, free of most contaminants, with a minimum amount of noise.

 

In this role, and with minimal supervision, you will:

 

  • Adhere to all safety requirements as posted on the job safety card
  • Consistently follow all applicable work instructions
  • Receive daily work assignments from the department supervisor or lead person, follow the sampling plan requirements as per the SQAP, or other designated sampling plan
  • X-ray castings as per supplied written instructions and sketches, arranging castings on film cassette with image quality indicators (penetrameters) and other required identifications
  • Process and interpret x-ray film per established company and customer standards
  • Accept or reject casting(s), or lots, based on results of the inspection technique used
  • Write detailed X-ray techniques on all jobs requiring NDT for Level III evaluation
  • Faithfully apply all applicable SPECS and report any apparent deviations to the Quality Assurance Manager, the Plant Manager, or the department supervisor
  • Attend and successfully complete hazardous material / waste handling classes
  • Read and interpret complex blueprints and casting drawings, including symbols
  • Maintain all required inspection records, files, and vouchers, where accuracy is paramount
  • Maintain all necessary inspection records and files, in addition to a variety of logs where accuracy is paramount
  • Maintain all labor vouchers, records and files in a clean and orderly condition, and enter all required information into the company software in an accurate and timely manner
  • Maintain the work area in a clean and orderly condition, and keep noise level to a minimum
  • Perform routine maintenance on the X-Ray Film processor
  • Safeguard the use of the stamp(s) issued to them, as outlined in the Final Inspection instructions
  • Attend and successfully complete lockout / tagout training
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2+ years experience as a Level II Radiographer or prior demonstrated experience
  • Successful completion of Level II, RT certification
  • Must be able to read, write and understand the English language for written & verbal instructions
  • Must have 20 / 25 near vision (correctable)
  • Must be able to handle the physical demands of the job
